The Bushwick Collective in Brooklyn, New York is a fascinating place to visit. Street art covers the buildings and it is hard to truly appreciate the scope of the graffiti because it is everywhere! Bushwick is a true working-class neighbourhood and as a result its industrial heritage provides walls that are canvases for public art.

Troutman Street at Nicholas Avenue

The heart of the Bushwick Collective is the intersection of Troutman Street and Nicholas Avenue. The Collective is the work of Joseph Ficalora and is both a tribute to his father who was murdered in 1991 and his mother who passed away in 2011. It was Ficalora’s goal to revitalize Bushwick and in 2012 he invited a number of well recognized graffiti artists to paint murals on buildings in the neighbourhood. The murals have transformed the once grim, industrial area into a huge open-air gallery that stretches for many blocks. The photography opportunities are countless…
